Day 1
Depart from Lilongwe to Cape Maclear (Lake Malawi NP). Stop underway at the famous Mua Mission and museum, and get to know more about the three main Malawian tribes of the Mua area; the Chewa, the Ngoni and the Yao. All the history, culture and rituals are exposed in this colourful museum. Arrival in Cape Maclear around in the early afternoon, where there is the possibility to visit the base camp of Kayak Africa along the shores of Lake Malawi. Enjoy lunch and kayak (or go by motorboat) to the Mumbo Island and stay and relax in the comfortable, fully furnished tents of Kayak Africa, built on the outskirts of the Island and providing the most exclusive views over Lake Malawi.

Day 2
Spend the day at Mumbo Island (Lake Malawi NP). Lake Malawi NP is the most important freshwater fish sanctuary in Africa, if not in the world, protecting a diversity of species second to none. Scuba diving and snorkelling are popular activities, as well as swimming or exploring the island’s surroundings by foot.

Day 3
After breakfast on the island, kayak back to mainland (or go by motorboat). The Kiboko driver will be waiting on the mainland to transfer you to the interesting colonial town of Zomba, the former capital of Malawi. Visit the colorful and busy markets and enjoy lunch in town. Head up to the Zomba Plateau where you will be accommodated at the beautiful Kuchawe Inn Hotel, built on the cliffs of the Zomba Plateau overlooking the beautiful gardens and pine forests of the Zomba valley.

Day 4
Spend the day on the Zomba Plateau, one of the most popular areas in Malawi for walking and hiking. Go for a hike to Chingwe’s Hole, a natural hole or see one of the many waterfalls and stunning viewpoints on the plateau.

Day 5
After breakfast at the Kuchawe Inn, decent back to the Zomba town and from up here to Liwonde NP. Arrive at Mvuu Camp around lunch time. Mvuu means hippo in Chichewa and the lodge is based along the hippo infested Shire River in the park. Although the relatively small size, there is plenty of wildlife to be seen.

Mvuu Camp is overlooking the beautiful Shire River, and accommodates in spacious fully furnished spacious chalets (with large beds). The veranda of each of the chalets is raised towards the Shire River to ensure prime and discreet game viewing opportunities.

Day 6
Go on game drives, walks, night drives or a boat ride accompanied by of one the guides of Mvuu Camp inside the Liwonde NP. A population of 5 black rhino’s live in a sanctuary within the park. Waterbuck, sable, impala and elephant are found close to the shire river. Further into the park more animals like lion, leopard and kudu can be spotted. The 370 species of birds of the park can be seen along the river and the boat ride on the Shire River offers an excellent opportunity to come really close to the many birds and animals depending on this beautiful river.

Day 7
After your last breakfast at the Mvuu camp we leave the park in the Kiboko vehicle around 9a.m. and drive back to Lilongwe. Arrival in the early afternoon hours.

Additional Information
  • All the accommodation is based on two persons sharing.
  • Towels bedding and mosquito nets are provided during the whole safari.
  • Optional activities are:
    Motorized water sports .
    Scuba diving
    For the rest are all the activities mentioned included, snorkelling, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, game drives and walks.
  • There is always a supply of 20 litres of purified drinking water inside the vehicle.
  • A 12-volt video charger cigarette plug is available in the vehicle.
  • All accommodation except for the bush camps will take US dollars cash and TC’s for optional payment like bar taps and extra personal expenditures.
  • There is a bank and a bureau the change at the airport.
  • Credit Cards payment and money with draws are very limited in Malawi. There are ATM machines in Lilongwe and the airport available but they are limited to the withdraw of 200 US in local currency only using mastercard or visa.
